Trained Mentors
While all our volunteers are trained to Level 3 in Mentoring with Oasis, the process of mentoring is a journey of learning for both the mentor and her mentees.
Mentors are truly committed people who are trained to serve and unselfishly ‘share’ the lives of their Mentees. It is a rewarding and humbling experience as it is for the total good and encouragement of the young person.
The aim is to empower young girls, in the best meaning of that word, to know they are cherished, special and full of worth. It is also to guide them in the truth that they can be totally free of the adverse and strong pressures of this world’s values. They must be blessed in knowing use and abuse of them is not to be tolerated.
Training of mentors and assessment of and by them of their journey with the young person is provided. This helps to appreciate and add to skills and understanding of one-to-one relationships and consistently proves to be invaluable.
On completion of the course, the mentor and mentee will be introduced! They can make their own arrangements but ideally looking to meet for an hour each week. We aim to be as flexible as possible and so variations to this procedure can be discussed with the course director.
Mentoring takes place once the girls have completed the cherished course. each girl is paired with a trained mentor who is committed to them for a minimum of 8 weeks. Cherished provides a mentoring service as they see it as being one of the most valuable tools for when working alongiside young people. We believe that listening and supporting is so crucial for when on a journey in helping a young person grow and develop.
All mentors are trained to a level 3 mentoring qualification which allows them to mentor both in schools and community groups. All mentors are provided with supervisory support which ensures they feel guided and supported throughout their mentoring relationship.
If you are interested in the possibility of mentoring as a cherished volunteer then please explore this option further by reading more information on mentoring on our training and volunteering page or by contacting Hannah Borg the Cherished project leader. all details are on the Contact Cherished Page.
