Girls’ confidence is in crisis.

Despite sexism and equality being a central debate in 2014, there is still enormous pressure being placed on young women to conform to unattainable ideals. In a society saturated with photoshopped images, stereotyped gender roles and false needs advertising, girls’ confidence is being constantly undermined. The true beauty of character is ignored.

Hannah Borg first developed the Cherished programme in 2011, in response to her own experiences of low self-esteem and the limited support available to vulnerable girls.

The Cherished course offers girls the opportunity to explore their identity and puts in place the foundation to make positive lifestyle choices.

87% of girls, aged 11-21, believe that women are judged for their looks rather than their ability. Cherished aims to nurture the self-esteem of schoolgirls in order to liberate them from outward pressures and believe in their own unique value.

We have seen girls transform their attitude and aspirations, becoming beacons of inspiration to others through the confidence gained on the Cherished course.

'Unveiling the true potential and unique value of girls, through acceptance, care and love.'

The surge in demand for the Cherished course and mentoring scheme has kept the team incredibly busy over the last year.

2015 will be even more of an adventure! Cherished have been working alongside other local groups, such as The Lighthouse in Aston, hopefully expanding our support network right across Birmingham.

Cherished is also increasing its presence in Sutton Coldfield, with highly successful stands at the Sutton Town Expo on the High Street and an upcoming fundraiser day hosted in Starbucks Sutton Coldfield

Come and join in the fun on Saturday 7th March 2015, from 10am, with a raffle to win a fantastic pamper hamper and meet the ladies.

Cherished is a registered CIC, a not-for-profit organisation that use their profits to benefit the community.

While there is a charge for most Cherished services, this only covers our costs.

To continue expanding our provision and developing our services, Cherished relies on grant funding, corporate sponsors and donations.

We also rely heavily on our exceptional team of volunteers, who freely give their time to support Cherished.
